Home Rewiring
Replace knob-and-tube, ungrounded or deteriorated wiring, in stages or all at once.
Home Rewiring — what's involved
Rewiring is the largest residential electrical job there is, and it is usually driven by one of three things: wiring old enough that its insulation has failed, two-wire circuits with no equipment ground, or an insurer that will not write a policy on knob-and-tube. Cloth-insulated conductors from the mid-century become brittle and shed their covering in junction boxes; knob-and-tube has no ground at all and was never designed to be buried in the insulation later blown into the attic around it.
A rewire does not have to happen all at once. Electric Shock scopes them both ways: a full replacement while a house is open for a renovation, or a staged plan that takes the worst circuits first — typically kitchen, bath and anything feeding a bedroom — and works through the rest over time. Either way the goal is the same: grounded circuits, properly sized, in boxes you can open without finding a surprise.

What a rewire addresses
- Knob-and-tube and cloth-insulated branch circuits replaced with modern grounded cable
- Ungrounded two-prong receptacles replaced with grounded, correctly bonded outlets
- Undersized circuits split out so the kitchen and laundry get dedicated runs
- Junction boxes brought into accessible, code-compliant locations rather than buried in walls
- AFCI and GFCI protection added where current code requires it
- Panel replacement, where the existing panel cannot support the rewired circuits
The Home Rewiring process
Survey what is actually in the walls
Older homes are rarely wired the way anyone documented. We open representative boxes, trace circuits and map what exists before quoting, so the scope reflects the house rather than an assumption about its age.
Agree a scope and a sequence
Full rewire or staged by priority. If it is staged, we agree which circuits go first and make sure each phase is left complete and safe rather than half-finished.
Plan access and make-good
Rewiring means opening walls and ceilings in places. We walk the route with you in advance so you know where the access points will be and what patching is involved.
Pull, terminate and protect
New circuits are pulled, devices replaced, grounds landed, and circuit protection updated at the panel.
Test, label and inspect
Circuits are tested, the panel directory is rewritten to match reality, and the work is inspected.
What you get out of it
A ground on every circuit
Equipment grounding is what makes surge protectors, GFCI devices and modern appliances behave the way they were designed to.
Insurability
Some carriers decline or surcharge homes with active knob-and-tube. Documented replacement removes that conversation.
Capacity where modern life puts it
Kitchens, baths, home offices and laundry rooms get the dedicated circuits they now need instead of sharing one overloaded run.
