Outlet & Switch Installation
New receptacles, dedicated circuits, GFCI protection and switching that works the way you use the room.
Outlet & Switch Installation — what's involved
Most homes were wired for how people lived when they were built, which is why extension cords and power strips end up doing structural work. Adding receptacles where you actually need them is one of the least disruptive electrical improvements available, and one of the few that you notice every single day.
Electric Shock adds and replaces receptacles and switches throughout the house: kitchen and bath circuits with the GFCI protection they require, dedicated circuits for appliances that should not share, exterior weather-resistant receptacles in in-use covers, three- and four-way switching so a long hallway or a stairwell can be controlled from both ends, and dimmers matched to the fixtures they are actually driving.

Common outlet and switch work
- New receptacles added to rooms that are short of them, on existing or new circuits
- Dedicated circuits for microwaves, refrigerators, window units, sump pumps and space heaters
- GFCI protection for kitchens, bathrooms, garages, basements, crawl spaces and outdoors
- Weather-resistant exterior receptacles in in-use covers
- Three-way and four-way switching for hallways, stairs and rooms with two entrances
- Dimmers, timers, occupancy sensors, USB-C receptacles and smart switches
- Replacing worn receptacles that no longer grip a plug, and ungrounded two-prong devices
The Outlet & Switch Installation process
Work out where power is coming from
Adding a receptacle is easy; adding it to a circuit that can carry it is the actual job. We identify the nearest suitable circuit or determine that a new home run is needed.
Plan the route
We agree the fishing route and any access points before cutting, and choose locations that avoid unnecessary drywall repair where we can.
Install to the current standard
Tamper-resistant receptacles where required, weather-resistant devices outdoors, correct box fill, and GFCI or AFCI protection appropriate to the location.
Test and verify
Every device is tested for correct polarity, ground and GFCI function before the plates go on.
What you get out of it
No more extension cords
Permanent wiring in the right place removes the cords running under rugs and behind furniture, which is a genuine fire risk rather than just untidy.
Protection where water is
GFCI devices interrupt a ground fault in milliseconds. In kitchens, baths, garages and outdoors they are the difference between a shock and an incident.
Switching that matches the room
Being able to turn a stairwell on from the bottom and off from the top is a small thing that you appreciate permanently.
